Granted each year to commemorate the legacy of Louis E. Burnham. Burnham, born in Harlem on Sept. 29, 1915 to Barbadian immigrant parents, went on to become a student leader at City College of New York, organizational leader of the Southern Negro Youth Congress, and was founding editor of the Harlem-based newspaper Freedom.
