Editorial Assistant, Planet Magazine
This position is part time and requires four days a week in the office, four hours per day. This is an unpaid position that could lead to a small stipend in six-month’s time. Above all, this is a great opportunity to gain experience and learn about multiple aspects of the magazine publishing business, as you will be integrally involved in editorial, research, administrative, and will report directly to the managing editor.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, answering editorial correspondence, researching, preparing and maintaining article pitch files, fact-checking, copy editing and some writing.
Candidate must have ability to copy edit stories with speed and accuracy as well as proofread and track the progress of sections from the first proof through the final round. Also should be talented in writing headlines and sub-heads.
Working closely to the managing editor, the assistant will plan and execute special editorial features and maintain the workflow for a busy production department.
Interested journalists should work well in a group setting and be comfortable overseeing a number of departments, contacting freelancers and maintaining regular relationships with industry contacts.
Our ideal candidate for this growth-oriented position should be organized, possess excellent verbal and written skills, perform under pressure, and be pleasantly engaging. Some magazine experience is preferred. Qualified candidate will be a self-starter with an appropriate sense of urgency when needed, as this is a deadline-driven position.
